Hi, I am Dr Fay Karpouzis PhD, I am passionate about making a difference in the arena of Public Health.

My vision is to positively impact the health and well-being of people of all age groups. I have had the privilege of a wonderful education spanning over forty years. I have interests in health, wellness, lifestyle and prevention. Allow me to share my knowledge, experience and wisdom with you. It is my hope that I can make a positive impact on you and your family’s health.

About Me

I completed my doctorate, at Deakin University, in the School of Exercise and Nutrition Sciences (nutrition, education and sustainability). I was the recipient of a National Health and Medical Research Council Postgraduate Scholarship which funded my PhD candidature.

Most importantly, I am a loving mother of two intelligent girls. My eldest was diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), eczema, dyslexia, dyspraxia, and food intolerances when she was a child. And this is where my passion for searching for answers started.

My journey into the research world started after years of frustration as a mother of a child who was diagnosed with ADHD, eczema, dyslexia, dyspraxia, and food intolerances. I spent many years helping my eldest daughter overcome her challenges. I tried many diets, exercise programs, behavioural programs, remediation techniques, and much, much, more. What I discovered, was that collectively, everything I did made a difference to my daughter’s life.

As a result of my personal experience, I decided that I wanted to help other children and parents who faced similar challenges. That is why, I undertook my Master’s degree (via research) in Paediatric ADHD and complementary therapies. I wanted to help parents like you, find solutions for your child/children. I wanted to provide evidence-based healthy lifestyle choices for parents with children diagnosed with ADHD. So, I used my personal, clinical, and research experience and created this series of children’s books called But why…?.

This is a series of evidence-based children’s books sharing healthy lifestyle activities, designed to enhance the lives of children with and without ADHD. These books are filled with simple, practical and fun ways to inspire both children and families to make healthy lifestyle choices together.

Continuing with my passion for helping children, I undertook my PhD and I evaluated school-based nutrition programs and their impact on children’s fruit and vegetable intakes and cooking skills. I interviewed children and asked them how they would inspire their families and friends to eat healthily, and they told me! What I discovered was that children love to cook, and if given the right circumstances they will cook and eat healthy meals with their loved ones.

As a result of my research, I have published several articles on Paediatric Attention Deficit Disorder and Nutrition in medical and allied health journals. I have presented my published research at Chiropractic, Integrative Medicine, Psychology and Psychiatry conferences in Australia, and all over the world over the last 20 years.

To round off my education, I undertook an online course at Harvard University on Corporate Health. I thought it was important to have the skills to work at the corporate level with adults. Children cannot positively impact their health and well-being on their own. Hence my desire to educate parents, especially those in the workforce as they are time-poor and many need upskilling in the area of making healthy lifestyle choices for themselves and family.
